Guys, today we will know the difference between a Solar inverter and a Normal inverter.
The main four questions related to Solar Inverter and Normal Inverter.
- How does the inverter work?
- What is the difference between Solar and normal inverter?
- Which inverter should we install at home?
- How is a normal inverter converted to a solar inverter?
How does Inverter work?
So, our home-made inverter is made up of many devices connected inside it. So that this one tool can complete all the work.
The inverter at our home the AC supply that comes to our house has to be converted into a DC supply, after which it stores DC in the battery.
And later on, whenever the electrical supply of our house gets disconnected, this inverter converts the DC supply in our battery to AC and gives it to us. With the help of which we can run our AC equipment.
Difference between Solar Inverter and Normal Inverter
The main difference between Solar and Normal inverter is in the working of these two.
The normal inverter has three main functions, while the Solar inverter has five types of functions inside.

The function of the Normal inverter
Converter
The function of the converter inside the normal inverter is to convert the AC supply to the DC supply. After this, the DC current from the converter goes to the charger, this charger is connected to the battery.
Charger
The charger charges our battery, and it turns off the supply once the battery is fully charged. So that the battery is safely charged.
Inverter
After the battery is charged, our inverter comes in handy. Whenever the AC supply of the house is disconnected, then this inverter drives the home appliance by changing the DC supply in our battery to AC supply to our electrical appliances.
So, all these three functions you can see inside our normal inverter.
How Solar Inverter Works?

As we know that there are three functions inside the Normal inverter, similarly we have functions in the Solar Inverter are :
- Converter
- Charger
- Inverter
- Blocker
- Charge controller
All solar inverter has all three functions of a Normal inverter, but inside the Solar inverter, we get two more functions. And because of these two functions, the cost of the Solar inverter is more than the Normal inverter.
Blocker
If you want to install a solar panel in your house, then you must have this blocker function in your inverter. By the way, we get it in all solar inverter.
Its works when the solar panel does not provide electricity at night time. At that time, this blocker prevents the electricity stored in our batteries from going to the solar panel, so that it does not get spent.
Meaning, this blocker only allows the electricity from the solar panel to come in, not to go back.
Charger controller
This charger controller is the second function, which is not found in the Normal inverter.
As we all know, the solar panels only give us solar electricity on day time only till the sun present. It gives us DC current only when there is sunlight.
Meaning the electricity from the solar panel is never fixed, it changes in a short time. For example – we get more energy in the day time, less in the evening, absolutely closed at night.
Due to this, we have a disadvantage. Because we all know that while charging the battery, we have to keep the charging speed a fix. So that the battery is not stressed, and our battery is not damaged.
So this charger controller controls the power from the solar panel and charges the battery at a fixed speed. Due to which the life of the battery is good and not affected.
So now with all these things we have come to know the difference between Solar Inverter and a Normal Inverter.
Inside the Solar Inverter, we get Two main advantages, which are not found in the Normal Inverter. That is it has Blocker and Charger Controller
Which inverter should use in the house?
So, you can use the Normal Inverter only for charging and discharging the battery. We cannot use it with solar panels.
But we can use Solar Inverter for both normal uses and also connect Solar Panels.
If you are installing a new Inverter system at your home, and it is connected to the Solar Panel. Then you will have to install a Solar Inverter.
But if you are not installing a Solar Panel at home, then you should install a Normal Inverter. Because its price is slightly less than a Solar Inverter.
But, if you are thinking of getting a solar panel at home after some time, then you should get the Solar Inverter already.
How to convert Normal inverter to Solar inverter?
If you already have a normal inverter at home, and you want to convert it into a solar inverter. So it is very easy.
For this, you have to bring the Solar Charger Controller from the market and connect it to your Normal Inverter.
There are two main types of this in the solar charger market.
- PWM solar charger
- MPPT solar charger
Pulse Width Modulation Charge Controllers

The pulse width Modulation charge controller was the first charging controller used and was simpler and less expensive than the MPPT controls. PWM controls the flow of power to the battery with the most efficient current reduction, called Pulse width modulation. When the batteries are fully charged, the PWM charging controllers continue to provide a small amount of power to keep the batteries fully charged. PWM controls are best for small-scale use because the solar panel system and batteries should have the same dimensions. This becomes even more difficult with larger installations.
What is MPPT Charge Controller?

MPPT Charge Controller

MPPT, or Maximum power point tracker is an electronic DC to DC converter that prepares the game between the same solar panels, with a battery bank or grid for use. To put it simply, they convert high DC power from solar panels to the low power needed to charge batteries.
This is sometimes called “power point trackers” for short – not to be confused with PANEL trackers, which are the next mountain, or tracks, the sun.
In my opinion to you is that you get MPPT solar charger installed in your house.
PWM Charger is made up of old technology, due to which it consumes some power unnecessarily. Its efficiency is said to be up to 70%.
While MPPT solar charger does not waste your electricity unnecessarily. Its efficiency is reported from 90 to 96%. It is said that it will be more beneficial for us.
